First Clod of the Summer for me

This morning I got up and rode up Clodfelter... well half of it. I went to "the dogs" which is only 5 of the 10 miles. The guys all race and its this big competition. The goal is to get up it in 40 minutes or less. So I've decided they are ROCK STARS! I thought I'd give it a go this morning. Keep in mind I'm only eating 500 calories a day and not really supposed to do any strenuous exercise. I made it to "the dogs" in 31 minutes. Which I guess is only 5 or 6 minutes off of Jacob's time to the same place. I wanted to go a little further but the dogs were sitting right out on the road and apparently they will chase you if they are out. So I just turned around. I didn't think I was doing a very good time, but I guess the next 5 miles are not nearly as hard as the first 5, which is a solid climb.

The next part of the challenge... coming down at 50 mph... Ya... not me... not EVER! I came down at 20-30 mph and that is plenty fast to me. Its scary going any faster. Jacob hit 53 mph on the ride he did last weekend! WHAT! Holy Crap! The fastest I've ever gone on a bike was 40mph and I thought I was gonna die!

A couple of cute things happened this morning. Kennedy was up before I left. So I got her breakfast and then went out to the garage to get ready. While I was putting on my shoes she came out and said, "kiss mom" then just ran back in after getting her kiss. It just surprised me. It was so sweet.

Then when I got home, I came in and Ky had a card and letter for me and Jacob on the table and two bowls of "fruit salad" (since I don't eat sugar, he said). It was so sweet. I love it when they do thoughtful things. He hadn't even eaten his breakfast because he had been working on ours.

Yes, that is grapefruit, lemons, apples and carrots... all cut up and sliced and everything.

So back to The Clodfelter Challenge... I am totally going to do it in less than 45 minutes this summer. Thats my goal. I may not make it to sub 40 like the guys, but they are all masachists so I am ok with that! I'd be thrilled with a 45 minute ascent.

I had no idea the bikers are thrill riders. I see people riding all the time on Badger, but there aren't any hills for them behind my house. That is wild!

Ya... we like Badger too. Thats a nice FLAT ride. We go all the way out to Benton City and around to Richland or up Webber Canyon when we go out that way. Its a great ride.

I'd like to ride up Clodfelter with you this year. I just don't want to ride before 6:30ish a.m. Do you still go super early? About the dogs, did you know you can buy a spray called Halt? It shoots 20 feet and it's to keep the scary dogs away. It works great and it's feels good to get even with them for all the times they've almost made me wreck. I got mine from Performance Bikes.
